Not in BOM
Introduction
In certain scenarios, designers may create components exclusively for CAD utilization, including but not limited to:
- Tool design elements
- Skeleton structures
- Phantoms or what's often termed 'organizational components'
These particular components serve a purpose strictly within the world of CAD, not engineering (BOM) nor manufacturing domains, due to their specialized function. Consequently, they never undergo the processes of sourcing, production, or shipment to the end consumer.
From an engineering perspective, these components fall under the classification of "Not in BOM", signaling their distinct status within the bill of materials (BOM).
ENOVIA support of ‘Not in BOM’:
In the "Engineering Release" application, you have the capability to determine whether an Engineering Item is suitable for manufacturing or procurement by utilizing the Boolean attribute "Manufacturable/Procurable." Should the Engineering Item be unsuitable for either manufacturing or procurement, you can simply toggle the value of this attribute to "False."
Important Note:
Upon creation of the manufacturing item (within DELMIA applications) for such an Engineering Item, you will receive a prompt with the following message:
The following video illustrates these concepts in more details.
Not in CAD
Introduction
Product engineers have the capability to define engineering items within the engineering definition, without any geometry. Consequently, the presence of such items in the CAD structure is not necessitated. Typically, these would be raw materials that are vital for manufacturing processes, such as oil and glue. These components are classified as "Not in CAD."
ENOVIA support of “Not in CAD”
In the "Engineering Release" app, you have the capability to precisely specify the consumption of raw materials necessary for product production. This process involves:
- Selecting an existing raw material (*).
- Defining the exact quantity required along with its unit of measure using the "Existing Raw Material" command.
- If the quantity is indeterminate at this stage, you can opt for "As-required.
The manufacturing definition within DELMIA apps builds upon the engineering phase, empowering users to adjust the quantities previously set during the engineering definition phase to ensure accurate production planning and execution
(*) The definition of raw materials in ENOVIA is available using the role “Specification Manager (XSR)”
The following video illustrates these concepts in more details.
