ENOVIA’s sourcing and standardization solution ensures compliance to organizational policies and strategies during the component request process. It provides tools to streamline external component introduction, qualification and approval.

 Two new roles are introduced in this domain, starting from R2021x FD06 (as GA roles on premise only):

Supplier Item Manager 

This role targets component engineers that are responsible for approval of new components and the management of existing components.

This role helps:

• Facilitate the process of approving and qualifying Manufacturer Equivalent Items in a centralized system to ensure new components are aligned with Sourcing and Engineering strategies.
• Expedite the new component request review and disposition process by enabling the configuration of request templates through the addition of appropriate users and key information.
• Improve compliance of where components are allowed to be used by enabling equivalence qualifications.

Component Request Engineer 

This role targets design engineers that are responsible for providing product design specifications, and that need to submit requests for new components.

This role enables users to:

• Submit the component requests for new components to be sourced.
• Facilitate the process of introducing, approving and qualifying new components by enabling a centralized request process.
• Improve compliance of where components are allowed to be used by enabling usage-based qualifications.

When a component request is submitted, it is created against a specific Engineering Item(s) considered as “Input Item” in the request. Further, the component engineer generates the Manufacturer Equivalent Item (MEI) and provides it as an “Answer Item” in the request that will be the proposed item to be sourced from the manufacturer. The MEI represents the component engineering specifications as provided by the manufacturer.

The Manufacturer Part Number, MPN, is also added to the request in order to ensure accurate definition.

Note:

1. The “MPN” may not be unique across manufacturers.
2. The MEI identification in the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is the combination of “MPN” and the “Manufacturer” ID. For example:

The complete approval process is governed by a graphical workflow that contains all the steps involved in each state of the component request. These steps are instantiated from the route templates that are defined by the component engineer, and that take into account the various component categories in the organization and their different approval process:

At the end of this process, the Manufacturer Equivalent Item (MEI) is qualified and the request is approved.
