ENOVIA and the ENOVIAworks Portfolio

Hello Everyone,
I hope a lot of you were able to attend the 3DEXPERIENCE World 2020 event in Nashville, TN recently that introduced ENOVIAworks for our SOLIDWORKS customers. At the event, I received many great questions on the debut of this solution – what it is and what does it address. I say “solution,” as this group of roles is a subset of the overall ENOVIA Portfolio that has been specifically designed to benefit the SOLIDWORKS user base. Because it’s so new, I thought I would take a few minutes to offer some detail around the features and benefits available in ENOVIAworks.

In short, ENOVIAworks is a collection of cloud-based roles that provides essential functionality for teams to more efficiently (and repeatedly) Plan, Develop and Release new products. These processes are all connected through two core roles, Collaborative Business Innovator and Collaborative Industry Innovator – which are the gateway to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

Let’s take a look at each of these sections:

Plan here refers to “project planning.” In this context, Plan focuses more on the departmental work that occurs in a small group or team to complete an activity such as development of a new prototype. This is in contrast to “project management” which is generally for broad strategic definitions of what a company does at the product level, such as manage the development of a product line. Subsequently, the applications included here are dynamic in nature and allow for change and interaction between the members of the team involved.

Develop zeros in on the work itself. Primarily, this work happens in the design space to create or update a product’s specification. Beyond the immersive CAD integration to SOLIDWORKS and CATIA, other integrations are available here for non-Dassault Systèmes CAD solutions. This area of the solution includes the 3DProduct Architect role, which allows customers to define the work breakdown structure of new designs before they ever reach the designer. This allows design leads to control the resulting CAD specs outside of the CAD design effort.

Release focuses in on the ability to manage definition of the design. Importantly, this supports design definition from inception through the various steps of releasing designs in a controlled and coordinated manner. Here, the Product Release Engineer role brings the Engineering and Design domains together in one “product structure,” evolving the prior paradigm of a CAD Design and a BOM structure into a single construct.

The roles within Collaborate give the broader stakeholders in the product development process direct and controlled access, allowing collaboration across departments that normally occurs in a serial fashion today.

All of these roles and the underlying apps can then come together in various processes such as the basic overall process shown here:

Subsequently, the applications that make up these roles provide the functionality needed:

In summary, the ENOVIAworks portfolio offers the essential functionality for teams to improve data management processes, so they can focus on product innovation and add significant value to the designer whose data is now leveraged enterprise-wide.
