In the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, there are widgets and applications that present configuration information when an engineering item is configured. The applications available are based on the role assignments for the user.

Configuration management involves identifying variants and the options that are used when defining various product configurations, and having product lines and models that will use this information defined in various model versions and their evolution. The presentation layer of this configuration information may be different between applications, but the associated data is all the same. That is the benefit of using the 3DEXPERIENCE platform with a single database.
