A new highlight was introduced in ENOVIA R2019X FD05 (also R2020X GA) which allows users to classify Projects or Project Objects into various Library groups. One may be tempted to ask: ‘So What?’
The ability to classify Projects and related objects is a big deal, indeed! It enables users to come up with best practices that will greatly enhance productivity. Here are some typical use cases that may be considered:
- Classifying Projects - In a large organization, typically hundreds of projects run in parallel... Multiple branches or departments have their own projects... Sometimes many of these projects are identical in scope or in some aspects of schedules. It would be really cool to group such identical projects into common classes which makes tackling them much easier...perhaps even eliminating redundant projects.
- Classifying Project Tasks - Many projects have identical tasks. For example, if a company is working on two different models of its automobiles, some of the procurement tasks could be identical... In fact, the objects that need to be procured for these tasks could also be identical (say procurement of a 250 HP engine). It would be very efficient to group such tasks into library classes, and assign attribute groups to those classes that will help navigate to the tasks within the classes.. This eliminates a ton of repeated work.
- Classifying Milestones - users also can classify milestones from different projects into library classes. The benefit of this is that project stakeholders can easily work toward common milestones spread across different projects. This also helps tremendously in eliminating needless work in several projects.
Needless to say, users can come up with numerous best practices on this topic. Check back here soon. We will add a video that demonstrate this feature in action...
