Change Action Validation Tools Explained

Change Action is the execution tool employed by the technical users (designers, product engineers etc.) to perform required modifications while providing full traceability of these changes.

Going beyond what is captured by the “work under” of the change, there are various tools that can help the change reviewer(s) validate these changes:

3DPlay:

3DPlay offers an intuitive navigation experience to discover 3D models and their associated experiences in real-time.

How:

Drag and drop the realized changes into this tool. Navigate the 3D and use the measure and section commands to measure distances and cut through objects using a section plane to access details inside the object and measure hidden items.

Compare

The Compare tool allows users to compare content to identify differences in structures, metadata and 3D geometry. It compares content types of the same kind, thus increasing the user’s understanding of the differences in the content.

How:

Open the revisions to view and compare in this tool and identify the differences.

You also can export the compare results to an Excel file and later attach the results to the change action in the “Referentials” tab.

Note:

Starting from 20x FD01, users can run the tool directly from the “Realized Changes” to compare the old and new revision.

3D Markup:

3D Markup provides simple and efficient 3D analysis tools on the web to enable users to perform 2D drawing and 3D product markups for collaboration and to clearly communicate design concerns through a digital mockup.

How:

Drag and drop the realized changes into this tool (widget to get a good understanding of the modifications:

  • Measure distance, position, length, area, volume and thickness
  • Cut through objects using a section plane to access details inside the object and measure hidden items
  • Define annotations and comments
  • Run 3D Compare to compare two 3D objects by coloring them (note: this tool provides the same 3D compare capabilities as the app “Compare” mentioned earlier)

Note:

  • The markups created using this tool are persistent and can be attached to the change action (in the “Referentials” tab).
  • Starting from R2020x FD01, you also can markup 3D tolerance information
