Introduction

The Model Definition is a dashboard app that helps Product Managers in seamlessly managing the definition of products with high variability, complex set of configuration rules and product configurations. Enterprises with high variability often face the following challenges while defining and managing the Product Configurations (PCs):

• Extensive Variability: Hundreds/Thousands of Variants and Option Groups to configure
• Complexity: Complex set of Configuration Rules defined for variants and option groups
• Lack of traceability and accuracy
• Time constraints

As a product evolve with time, its variability and configurations must also evolve. For every Product Manager, it is critical to manage the evolution of product configurations with complete traceability. Before the R2023x FD02 release, the “Copy and Close” option was available. This option used to copy the Product Configurations from one Model Version to another. Although the content of the new Product Configuration is the same as the old one, it was difficult to trace the source from which the configuration was copied. This is due to the unavailability of the revisioning of the Product Configuration.

Starting from the R2023x FD02 release, you can now carry-over (Copy + Revise) Product Configurations from old a Model Version (A) to the evolved Model Version (B, C...) to improve productivity while maintaining complete traceability. For this, the "Carry over...” option is provided in the Model Version’s ID Card menu. This option allows you to search and select the existing model version and then displays the list of existing product configurations in it. You can select the required Product Configurations from the list and click "Revise and Close" option.

The new revision of these Product Configurations is created in the target model version. You can then reuse these Product Configurations or update them as required.

The value of Name attribute remains the same for source and new Product Configurations. The revisioning is useful in identifying the source of a product configuration with complete traceability.

Note: You can only carry over Product Configurations that are in the Frozen, In Work, or Private maturity state.
