Capture a Data Configuration or Baseline using Controlled Folders

Controlled Folders are one way to capture a baseline or take a snapshot of data in time. They are revisionable and allow you to lock down the folder when it is released so that data cannot be connected or disconnected from the folder after release. The folder can be revised if data needs to be updated, added or removed.

Although there are no direct comparison functions from one folder revision to another, it can easily be enhanced by using PLM Analytics or CATIA report generator to generate comparison reports between the revisions.

OOTB Controlled Folders are currently limited to specific object types that can be added to the folder, but the system can be configured to allow additional types as required. Physical Product Structures also can be added to the Controlled Folder to capture snapshots of the data but it must be done from the Web UI as Controlled Folders are currently not visible from the Native Apps.

Rules on when a Controlled folder can be released, i.e.: the required current lifecycle states of the folder content before the folder can be released, is configurable via a trigger object.
