As we move toward a model-based engineering approach, our ENOVIA brand widgets and functionality continue to evolve rapidly. As of this release (FD03 released May 29, 2020), we introduced support for Alternates/Substitutes for Release Management (XEN) - a critical need for many of our customers.  

Specifically, this release introduces a qualification feature that lets you evaluate and approve alternates and substitutes before they can be used. Alternates and substitutes that you add start out in the Proposed state. Once you approve their use, they are then qualified to be used.

Also introduced with this release, you can declare qualified alternates and substitutes as obsolete, either globally or for specific instances. Once obsolete in that context, it cannot be used.

Additionally, when you create a new version of the parent engineering item, alternates and substitutes for its children are carried over to the new version. The context in which the alternates and substitutes are used also is taken into account.
