This guide will provide a workaround to help resolve most cases of printing issues related to the error message, “Print driver host for 32bit applications has stopped working…”, as well as help resolve most cases of slow appearing print dialog boxes.

IMPORTANT:  Please read through the complete details of the workaround prior to performing the steps.  This will provide a better understanding of the workflow as well as raise any questions you might have prior to performing the workaround.

3.  When the printer properties dialog window appears, make note of the following information (see below for detailed screenshots):

  • TCP/IP Port number and print server name (See screenshot 2b)
  • Current driver version (See screenshot 2c)

4.  Download the appropriate printer drivers for your machine using the printer manufacturer’s website or obtain them from your IT administrator.  We recommend using the latest printer drivers.

Resolution

5.  Remove the device experiencing the issue from Devices and Printers

6.  Reinstall the printer as a locally attached network printer.  To do this, click the Add a printer button in the Devices and Printers window from the previous step.

7.  In the resulting window, select Add a local printer.

8.  Select the option to Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port from the dropdown menu.

9.  Type in the networked printer’s hostname or IP address.  The port name will automatically fill itself in with the same information.  Be sure to leave the Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use box unchecked, then click Next.

10.  Click the Windows Update button to retrieve an updated list of printer drivers from Microsoft, and then locate your printer in this list to proceed with the installation.

Alternatively, select Have Disk… and point to the printer drivers obtained from step 4.

Test

11.  Try to print from DraftSight to see if the issue is reproducible.
