As announced, the new Linux-Version of Draftsight is no longer available for 32-bit computers. To install it on 64-bit machines on current Ubuntu do the following:
1. Download the .deb-file
2. Install gdebi package installer by pressing Ctrl + Alt + T, which opens a terminal. Write "sudo apt-get install gdebi" and enter your password.
3. With your file browser search for the .deb-file in your download folder, right-click and select "install with gdebi". Enter Password when asked.
First look:
In my case everything worked fine, the display and the in-built file explorer look nice. Very helpfull new feature is the profile import wizard - no more messing around in hidden folders. Custom commands, keyboard shortcuts and display configuration imported successfully.
Unfortunatly, I can't open files with inserted images, which still causes a crash. This issue was announced as solved in the release notes.
Also very usefull the new custom paper size editor for built-in printers (pdf).
This version seems to be a huge step for Ubuntu Users, as installation on modern 64-bit computers is easy now. Maybe there will be a way to install it also on 32-bit computers.
Second look:
Well, after some drafting, some issues related to the display appear:
1. The display seems to be a bit slow. The cursor lags.
2. Cutting and moving with snap isn't really accurate. There is a small difference, which becomes visible when zooming in.
Greetings
