How to Carry Over Your Previous Settings & Customizations When Upgrading to V1R2.0

This post explains how DraftSight users can carry over their settings and customizations with ease after upgrading from V1R1.4 to V1R2.0.

Upon upgrading DraftSight, settings and customizations such as personalized menus and toolbars, print styles, fonts, etc., are saved in the previous application data folder, while a new folder with the default settings is created and used in place of the previous one (1).  To retrieve previous settings, you will need to point to the folder which contains the previous DraftSight profile.  Our Product Development team is currently working on automating this process.  In the meantime, this can easily be achieved by "importing the profile" used from the previous version.  Follow the instructions below to complete this:

1.  Type PROFILES in the command line and hit Enter.

-OR-

Go to:  Tools > Options > Profiles

2.   Click the Import… button, as shown below, to activate the Import Profile window.

The Import profile window allows you to browse and import other profiles you may have created (2).  In the following instructions, we will navigate and import the default profile used in the previous version of DraftSight, V1R1.4.

For Windows XP / 2000, in the Import Profile window, click the back button, as shown below, to navigate back one directory.

For Windows 7 / Vista, in the Import Profile window, click on the word DraftSight in the address bar, as shown below, to navigate back one directory.

The folder which contains the settings for V1R1.4 is named, 1.2.205, and the folder which contains the settings for V1R2.0 is named, 1.2.229 (3).

3.  Double-click on the folder, 1.2.205.

4.  Double-click on the Profiles folder, and then select the folder, __unnamed profile__.

5.  Double-click on Profile.xml (this is the default profile for V1R1.4)

6.  When the Import Profile window appears, give the imported profile a name and description, if you wish.  Then click OK.

7.  In the Options-Profiles dialog box, select the imported profile from the list,  and then click on the Activate button on the right, as shown below.

8.  Click OK.

Your previous settings and customizations should now be carried over and active in the new release.

(1) It is always advised to regularly keep a backup copy of all important drawing files and settings to prevent a permanent loss of data.  To learn about which files and folders to backup and how to perform a proper backup, refer to Section 2 of the “Installation and Upgrade Guide” found here:  https://swym.3ds.com/#post:6304

(2) For more information about profiles, please refer to the User Guide: Press F1, select the Search tab, and type profile. Select  Managing Settings Profiles.
