Fonts in DraftSight:

Annotation is a component that we must have in a drawing. And most of the annotation use text. Windows and DraftSight already provide many types of font however there are two types of font that DraftSight supports.

  1. True type fonts and
  2. SHX fonts.

True type fonts:

True type fonts are Windows fonts hence you must install true type fonts to Windows to let DraftSight recognize it. These fonts can also used in all other Windows applications e.g Microsoft Word, excel etc.

To install true type fonts, you can find font you want to install in Windows explorer. Select it, right click and choose install from context menu.

SHX Fonts:

SHX fonts are specific for DraftSight. If you install them, then only DraftSight can use it.

The SHX fonts are stored in DraftSight program files.

You can see where your ds store it in DraftSight Tools> option>Files Locations tab.

These fonts can be installed just by copying the .SHX file into the DraftSight Fonts folder - e.g. C:\\Program Files\\Dassault systemes\\DraftSight\\Fonts.

Big font:

This a special type of Special type of font to include characters for specific countries

The text files for some alphabets contain thousands of non-ASCII characters. To accommodate such text, DS supports a special type of shape definition known as a Big Font file. You can set a style to use both regular and Big Font files. This font is used to extend or replace the regular fonts to include characters for specific countries.

These fonts can only be used with SHX fonts.
