DraftSight Professional – Perpetual Vs. Term Licensing

DraftSight Professional – Perpetual Vs. Term Licensing

In order to satisfy the requirements of our different customers, DraftSight Professional is now available in two Licensing models: subscription (term) and non-subscription (perpetual).

The objective of this article is to help our users decide which of the options will better suit their needs.

DraftSight Professional : Non-Subscription (Perpetual License)

A perpetual license is a popular option, and the only option available until recently: As the name implies, the license does not expire.

Existing  DraftSight Professional Users could theoretically run the license for as long as there is a computer with supported hardware and operating system available. If in addition to the license, the customer has purchased an annual maintenance contract, they are able to access to the latest software releases, service packs and obtain technical support for installation and activation issues.

What is included in the DraftSight Professional Perpetual License (also referred as Non-Subscription)?

The current non-subscription offering includes a perpetual software license and maintenance for the first 12 months. After the first twelve months the annual maintenance can be renewed. Customers can select to renew the maintenance automatically each year.

What happens if a customer chooses not to renew their annual Subscription/Maintenance by the end of the 12 months?

The DraftSight Professional maintenance contract is valid for one year from the date of purchase, but as the DraftSight Professional license is perpetual, this means that if you do not renew a Maintenance that expires, you can continue to use (up to) the last DraftSight Professional version available at the time that your Maintenance period expires and the features that apply to that version. However, when your Maintenance period expires, you will lose entitlement to Technical Support, new software releases and service packs. Updating your DraftSight installation after expiration of your subscription installs the DraftSight Free version. As long as you do not update the DraftSight software after your subscription expires, there will be no impact to the installed application.

DraftSight Professional : Annual Subscription Licence

The annual subscription license allows customers to use DraftSight Professional for 12 months. It includes/entitles you to download all upgrades during that period and provides access to support for installation and activation. After 12 month(s), customers can choose whether to renew their subscription or stop using the software.

Note: You can opt out of the automatic renewal fee at any time, but when the subscription period ends, the software will cease to function (i.e. the license is not perpetual).
