For our MPS planning solution for MTO environments, we typically implement our DELMIA Quintiq CompanyPlanner solution. This solution does have scenario capabilities, which can be a great future to do some What-If analysis on potential planning improvements or ways to deal with ad-hoc challenges that might come from production, suppliers of raw materials, or customers.

In such case you could branch off a playground scenario and evaluate different approaches to the challenges. The KPIs, but also the detailed planning information can be compared against the actual planning (leading scenario), and if the consequences of an approach deals with the challenge in a proper way, this approach can be taken over into the actual planning.

However, in my experience I know only a few cases where we have seen this in action at a customer site. One example of the old days was Vlisco, where the customer nicely generated alternative scenarios, partially even with alternative input data if I recall well, and then evaluate opportunities to incorporate specific new demands for special products, or new product lines. Another example I know, is that in various metals customer solutions, there is an infinite planning scenario next to the leading scenario, to allow for validating the resource bottleneck situation in an unbiased way.

I would be interested to hear if there are more customer examples of good usage of the scenario feature, that are actually utilized in a structural or at least frequent way. Who can help?
