DELMIA Ortems DSLS on Hyper-V machines : How to request & install a license key file

Ortems HowTo Technical ​​​​​​​

In order to request DSLS license keys, you need to identify the “Computer ID” (also called “Target ID”) of the computer on which the DSLS license key will be installed. “Computer ID” is the technical term used in product manuals; “Target ID” is a generic term used in the License Key Request Order process.

Only 1 DS License Server can be installed and configured on a given computer, either as a standalone or as a failover member.

Preliminary remarks:

  • DS License Server running in a virtualized environment must be a failover cluster: 3 virtual machines (VMs) able to communicate together are then required. We recommend that the 3 VMs be hosted by 3 different physical machines.
  • the only supported Operating System for generating the virtual machine is Windows Server 2016, on which the Hyper-V 2016 role has to be added and a TPM 2.0 activated
  • the only supported Operating System for running the VM is also Windows Server 2016, on which there must be a Virtual Trusted Platform Module; the VM must be Generation 2.

 

0. Prerequisite

As explained in our install_config_mp_ps_2023_us.pdf documentation (available in \\help\\documentation\\ folder), to use Dassault Systèmes’ license system (DSLS), the Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Update 3 Redistributable package (32- or 64-bit version, as applicable) must be present on all the server and client computers that are going to run the DELMIA Ortems applications. If you need to install it, you can find the setup files in the Tools folder provided with the DELMIA Ortems installation package.
 

The following Step-by-step process to retrieve and install a DSLS license key file for DELMIA Ortems is to execute on all of the 3 VMs:
 

1. Download the DSLS license Server setup file

  • navigate to https://software.3ds.com/
  • click on “3DEXPERIENCE and V6”
  • choose: “3DEXPERIENCE R2019x” Release and “3DEXPERIENCE R2019x Golden” level and find the following in the list:
  • Download the file

2. Install your DSLS Server

All instructions are located on the zip file you just download.

  • Extract it to hard-drive
  • Open the DSLS.pdf file and follow the steps
  • Check that the client firewall, server firewall, network equipment and security software are properly configured. The TCP (HTTPS) protocol must be allowed from client to server typically on port 4085, or another port number if your server is configured to listen to a non-default port number.

 

3. Computer ID

There are 2 ways to identify the Computer ID:

  • open the software “License Administration Tool” (By default: C:\\Program Files\\Dassault Systemes\\DS License Server)

Your “Computer ID” is located on the “Server Definitions” tab

Or

  • launch the software DSLicTarget.exe using the command prompt and add “–t” at the end.

This software is located on the zip file at the following path (xxx\\Part_DS_LicenseServer.AllOS\\1\\DS_LicenseServer\\1\\Windows64)

Repeat this action for each of your 3 virtualised servers

4. LKO

If you cannot create an LKO by yourself, please contact your usual license provider (please note that the DELMIA Ortems Support Team can’t generate the LKO nor provide a license directly without an LKO).

 

If you can create the LKO by yourself, create it specifying:

 

  • Gen. Type = DSLS (instead of Specific)
  • Type = RED

5. Installation of the license key file (action to be performed on each of your 3 virtualized servers)

Concerning the installation, you need to:

  • Open the software “License Administration Tool” (License Server Administration), ensure that the status of your server is “Connected” otherwise Right Click and Connect it.
  • Click on the License menu and Enroll

  • Select the file you received from the KMC team (LICZ extension)

##NOTE## be careful where have saved the file, the screen shot below shows a file path that is normally rights restricted

6. Configuration of DELMIA Ortems to switch on DSLS license keys

  • Open the DELMIA Ortems “Environment management” module
  • Navigate to Administration > Advanced settings
  • Change the Licensing mode to 3DS licensing

When using 3DS Licensing with a license server cluster in failover mode, enter the names of the 3 servers and port numbers, separated by semicolons.

Click on the test license server button to check your installation.

7. Test if you now can connect to DELMIA Ortems

Now the process is completed, you should be able to launch each DELMIA Ortems module such as Data Module, WIP Control, Planning, etc.
