Introduction
The Dassault Systèmes strategy for working with part catalogs is to work with Classification Libraries.
Library is the strategic classification solution for 3DEXPERIENCE IP, as it provides a comprehensive set of capabilities to address classification needs with a seamless and scalable user experience.
The library solution provides an easy way to define multiple flexible classification taxonomies to establish an efficient IP reuse process across the entire organization.
We recommend existing CATIA customers (CATIA V5 and 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA) using CATIA catalog to migrate their catalogs to the Classification libraries using the following method.
The Migration Path
The migration path from CATIA V5 Catalog to 3DEXPEREINCE Library is composed of two main steps:
Step1: Migration from CATIA V5 Catalog to 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA Catalog by using the available migration tools, such as FBDI, DBDI and xPDM depending on the use case.
Step2: Migration from 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA Catalog to Classification Libraries by using the ‘Generate New Library Structure’ tool available from the native app.
Generating Libraries from Catalog
To generate a new library structure from a catalog, use the ‘Generate New Library Structure’ command from the native app. You will then get:
- A similar structure to that of the catalog
- All the classification attributes linked to respective classes
- The corresponding general classes and objects of the library are generated from the chapters and items of the catalog
The process to generate a new general library from a catalog is illustrated here:
Note:
The migration process should be performed once per Catalog. There is no further update to the Library once it has been generated from a Catalog.
