A palm tree dies. What to do? How about a stump table? Of course it needs to be in the right place which this one was. I had a CAD related demo to do the following week in CATIA V5 so this was a good excuse to remember how to use that system AND make something outdoors. I had no pressure treated lumber for the project so besides the design, I wanted to reduce the trips I needed to make to Home Depot.
First I grabbed my trusty laser level and got the cut line drawn and then out comes the chainsaw. And YES, I had to crack out a disk sander for a bit of touchup on that...
Now a quick evening in CAD after peeking at the underside of a few existing table designs...
With BOM in hand, off to Home Depot for just the right amount of hardware and lumber 🤣
Then a bit of drilling and assembly. NOTE that I sealed the top of the tree stump with some fiberglass resin but only because it was what I had in the shop. A good coat of paint would have probably sufficed.
Probably my one and only stump table. Quite sturdy though!!
