When I was a child, I had the opportunity to see in cinema the Right Stuff movie, based on Tom Wolfe's book on the history of the first U.S. Space program, from Chuck Yeager breaking the sound barrier to the Mercury 7 astronauts.
Last year, I saw on Disney+ the National Geographic serie, the Right Stuff, describing the adventure of the on the Mercury program.
I then decided to spend some time to "recreate" the Mercury Spacecraft using our great 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA.
First, I looked for pictures and schemas I decided to manage in our 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
Then, I designed the external shape of this capsule, as accurately as possible, with its escape tower and its engines, thanks to CATIA Mechanical and Shape Engineer role.
I cannot resist to the pleasure to place my result in context of our planet, thanks to 3DEXCITE Planet Studio and Creative Experience.
Of course in orbit, even if this goal was not achieve during the first flight of Alan Shepard in 1961 but with John Glenn in 1962,
and then, coming back to Earth
and "at sea"
I also used CATIA Live Rendering to put in place some decals: the Freedom 7 logo, the US Flag and the UNITED STATES marking on the complex shape of this spacecraft.
And of course, I used Airframe Fastener Engineer role I am working on to put in place all the Fasteners I can see on historical pictures.
To do so, I also used Part Supply to retrieve existing content for screw, nuts, washers, etc...
What do you think of the result ?
