The aim of this scenario is to introduce you to the concept of geodesic geometry, through the construction of a Geodesic Sphere using xGenerative Design.
A geodesic dome is a hemispherical thin-shell structure based on a geodesic polyhedron. The triangular elements of the dome are structurally rigid and distribute the structural stress throughout the structure, making geodesic domes able to withstand very heavy loads for their size.
As is they can be set directly on the ground as a complete structure. Moreover, in terms of their interior space, geodesic domes enclose the largest volume of space using the least amount of construction material. And, because they require so few material, they are extremely light.
Therefore, as you noticed, the Geodesic dome fits very easily in its environment, but this environment may change, that is why I chose xGenerative Design to create it. This app grants you a huge flexibility by allowing you to intuitively and quickly parametrize your model.
With my friend Thomas Doublet, we like to compose music and create 3D objets, so the idea was to find a link between these two passions, and xGenenerative Design was the perfect way to shape this link. In fact, as shown in the demo, the dome adapts itself to the music we created.
The geodesic dome is an interesting tool for architecture, used in many buildings, such as the Montréal Biosphere (Canada, Montréal), the NASA Aero-Acoustics Propulsion Laboratory (USA, Ohio), the Zeiss planetarium (Germany, Berlin), the National Library of Kosovo, the Glass Dome in Dali Museum (Spain, Catalonia)
