Finn Mast Project Composites Engineering Structural Model Creation Mechanical Scenario Creation
Dear all,
After all the various virtual challenges performed on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform (see the related post mentioned below) and especially the damping behaviour prediction, it is time to move to the boat yard for the manufacturing step of our best virtual mast expected.
A visit at HEOL Composites in the manufacturing plant will give you an idea about the various steps required to transform a virtual into an accurate real composite part. The composite layup defined using the Composite Design environment of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform is delivered as a ply-book to the builder.
The ability to laminate the mast was virtually checked using Producibility capabilities. Moreover, the details of the lamination are reviewed with the manufacturer to ensure and estimate the possible sources of variations along the hand manufacturing of the almost 100 plies of the stacking sequence.
Next step, the mast is delivered to Jonathan Lobert for accurate testing in La Rochelle with monitoring equipment on-board. Those measurements will be compared to the virtual assembly of mast, sail & boom to create the Fluid-Structural Simulation (FSI).
