Structural Generative Design is a new way to design components, instead of having to guess the right shape based on specifications you only have to define the functional volume and specifications to get an optimal solution. Most of the time it is used to design new components from scratch but can also be used to redesign existing ones.

Redesigning a single component to make it lighter is for sure interesting but redesigning a whole product to improve its performances and reduce the number of components definitively bring more value. Fewer components brings lot of benefits such as reduced risk of errors or lower assembly and maintenance cost.
