Design Contest / World Light Day - Small Modular Reactor (SMR)

Hello Everyone

For this month Design Contest, I would like to share with a you the design of a Small Modular Reactor I made a few weeks ago in 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA

Here are some details coming from the IAEA - International Atomic Energy Agency) website

What are Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) ?

Small modular reactors (SMRs) are advanced nuclear reactors that have a power capacity of up to 300 MW(e) per unit, which is about one-third of the generating capacity of traditional nuclear power reactors. SMRs, which can produce a large amount of low-carbon electricity, are:

  • Small – physically a fraction of the size of a conventional nuclear power reactor.
  • Modular – making it possible for systems and components to be factory-assembled and transported as a unit to a location for installation.
  • Reactors – harnessing nuclear fission to generate heat to produce energy.

Based on those details (and some others available on the web), I designed a (conceptual) SMR thanks to Mechanical Design Roles.

I also try to design a (conceptual) nuclear power plant with 2 SMRs inside.
