One of the molds from a chess set project we recently completed.
The mold was designed as a 2-plate cold runner system with 6 cavities and 2 side sliders.
To keep the correct production ratio in each injection cycle, the layout produces:
♛ 2 Queens
♜ 4 Rooks
The slider areas were designed as replaceable inserts for easier machining and maintenance.
For the slider movement, a wedge and spring mechanism was used to ensure reliable actuation and smooth return during mold operation.
The ejector forms were also designed based on EDM electrode geometry, then finished through machining and EDM processes to achieve the required details and surface quality. 🔧
