ASICS and Dassault Systèmes to offer on-demand insoles personalized for individual foot shape
ASICS and Dassault Systèmes have jointly opened a test studio in the DS Velizy Campus to trial a new service providing on-demand insoles personalized for individual foot shape.
The ASICS Personalization Studio is an ultra-compact factory located on the grounds of Dassault Systèmes’ headquarters in Vélizy-Villacoublay, just outside Paris. The modular structure combines Dassault Systèmes’ 3D EXPERIENCE platform1 and virtual twin technology2 with ASICS’ proprietary technology in sports to offer on-site, on-demand shoe-part manufacturing to meet any user's exact specifications.
Based on each user’s foot shape data and preferences, ASICS will use CATIA and SIMULIA modeling and simulation (called MODSIM) technology, plus its own proprietary knowledge of sports and physical movement, to algorithmically predict the appropriate shape of the sock liner. Advanced 3D printing technology3 is then used to create the insole, a thick lattice structure made from a highly flexible material layered to provide excellent breathability and softness. The exact level of softness can be varied for any part of the foot, which aids physical recovery by reducing strain, while also improving performance.
