3DCS Joins Catia V6's Powerful Tools as an Integrated Dimensional Analysis 3D App

DCS is proud to be releasing 3DCS for V6 2014x at Dassault Systemes 3DExperience Forum NAM. As part of the 3DExperience Platform, 3DCS and CATIA put designers in the position to create robust designs that account for manufacturing variation. With the ability to simulate part and process variation, 3DCS for V6 connects designers and manufacturers through the 3DExperience to optimize designs early in the product life cycle for manufacture-ability, reducing expensive quality issues that create rework, scrap and warranty claims.

DCS was the first Gold Software Partner for CATIA V5, many years ago, and is very excited to continue this streak by fully integrating 3DCS into CATIA V6. This streamlines the designers access to variation and tolerancing tools, empowering designers to work with actual manufacturing process data to realistically tolerance parts and processes as the design and CAD is initially made. No longer do designers need to put general tolerances and have manufacturing work the FTA out down the line, get it done and optimized in the very beginning so that dimensional requirements become integrated into the entire design process, driving it through the product life cycle. This will reduce the need for changes later, and keep manufacturing from having to deal with surprises on the plant floor during production.

How is this done? 3D Simulation has taken off. That much is obvious to everyone here. Dassault Systemes is leading the way with the 3DExperience, and as part of this incredible environment, 3DCS empowers designers to apply tolerances from a database of known processes (called, ironically, Process Capability Database), and simulate, using Monte Carlo simulation, thousand of potential builds. This essentially creates virtual prototypes of your product, pointing out how many will statistically be out of spec and from what sources. With this information, engineers can make important decisions about how to change the design to reduce out of spec situations and create a higher quality product.

This is an over simplification of course. To help new users and customers understand better, DCS is hosting a free webinar showing 3DCS for V6 through the entire model process. Take a look at the details and register here: https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/850657078
