Product Perception Experience - Tips & Tricks #1

Dear users, here are 4 - hopefully - useful shortcuts and hints when creating a design project presentation using the app CATIA Product Perception Experience (PPX).

Tips #1: Move or Copy variant lines between panels

To rearrange how the lines of variants are organized, simply drag & drop them within the same panel to change their order, or to another panel. Press Ctrl to create a copy. The same works with individual variants to reorganize their order within a line.

You can also duplicate a whole panel using the Duplicate Panel command from its context menu; quite handy to create a backup copy of a panel before messing around with it!

Tips #2: Unselect all variants in one click

When you want to create a Stage from a clean set of active variants, first use the command Unselect Variants or Unselect Variants (All Panels), and then reselect just the needed variants to capture in the stage.

Both commands are found under the Variant Panel context menu. They clear the selection of all the variants highlighted.

Tips #3: Make the variant panels bigger or smaller

Open the Preferences (Ctrl+Shift+P) and change the Size scale factor % under the Panels section. It will resize all the variant panels in your presentation.

For example, a value of 80% could be good when you start having more than 3 variant panels to display at the same time. On the other hand, if you have a 2nd screen you could move all the panels there and make them bigger, like 120%.

Tips #4: Stop the 360° ambience from changing size

Not specific to PPX but worth reminding in case some are not yet aware.

By default, the 360° "visu" ambiences - the one you load from the background menu, are being dynamically resized to adapt their size to the scene bounding box when an object is moved or hidden, which can happen quite often during a design project presentation.

To avoid the size jumping effect:

  1. Select the command Ambience and Camera in the View section of the Action Bar
  2. Set the Ambience Parameters to Override
  3. Set the Ground Mode to Fixed
  4. And press the Reset button if needed

NB: Although "visu" ambiences are ready to use, they are not always appropriate for a design product presentation. Instead we recommend to create or insert a "PLM" ambience. Among other advantages, they offer more customization capabilities, including the addition of a backplate.
