Hi all,
I joined CATIA Design team at Dassault Systèmes for a 6 months internship. I'm studying 3D design at STRATE, Design School. Here is the result of one of my project.
I had the chance to use CATIA concept modeling tool: "Imagine & Shape" [IMA] to collaborate with Linyuan, Chinese student @ Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts(GAFA) with his teacher Filipe Bragança . First deadline, I had only four days to generate a first 3D concept modeling based on his sketchs. Then I took the time to refine my model.
Design process
There are 3 steps for the Jade Project
1.Ideation
2.Concept - Refinement
3.Design Validation
1. Ideation > Sketchs (Linyuan)
2. Concept - Refinement > Imagine & shape (Dorian)
Project progress:
We used CATIA Natural Sketch as a communication tools to identify where to improve the shape.
In order to enrich the visual experience, I projected Linyuan's Sketches onto my first 3D.
Even if the modeling isn't finished, I was able to generate quickly photo realistic images of my model using CATIA Live Rendering.

With a little more time:
Up to details with filleting
3.Design Validation > live rendering (Dorian)
kinematic visualization (Video)
4. Experience (Dorian)
In order to put my car in a context of experience, I generate to 3D environments:
STUDIO
TUNNEL
Animated video from CATIA Live Rendering
6.Conclusion
Here are my 3 take-aways:
-Challenge
The time frame of 4 days was very challenging. I discovered the concept modeling in a very short time and was able to deliver a first model in 4 days with already first volumes.
-International exchange experience
Collaborating with another student from the other side of the planet was a delightful project. Embodies in 3D the sketches from Linyuan was rewarding. Imagine how ideas travels: the sketches done in China, modeled in 3D in France then 3D printed in China !
-Great experience
Using 3Dexperience R2015x/ CATIA Design Role: Creative Designer, I was able to start from 2 D Sketches to 3D concept modeling and photorealistic renderings. This project was a great opportunity to learn by doing !
Now I am ready for my final thesis that will be modeling crazy things on CATIA [of course]!
Stay tune,
Dorian KERREVEUR
