This is SEONG-MIN CHOO from Kookmin Univ in South KOREA.

Since Feb 2015 I have started my internship at Dassault Systèmes HQ in the CATIA Design Team.

(This is 1 month internship to discover and learn CATIA Creative Design Portfolio)

 

My project is "Wind Bench" for JEJU Island in South KOREA.

A light weight street furniture driven by the wind.

 

 

- Project's Goal -

The Goal of this project is giving a sweet memory from jeju island

with feeling it's specific environment

and enjoying the beautiful scenery during the rest on the Wind Bench.

 

 

 

 

In this Second Post that I did 3D modeling on the 3D sketch, using "Natural Sketch, Imagine & Shape, Generative Shape Design".

- Natural Sketch -

Through rough sketch I could find out ideal shape of the bench.

 

 By over tracing the out line of the rough sketch, I sketch core curve of the ideal shaping.

In thing process using control point on the trace curve I could sketch precise curve.

-  Imagine & Shape -

Start with cylinder subdivision.

 

Stretch the cylinder to the length of the 3D sketch, then add more curve to make the modification.

 

Modeling the bench by modifying the vertex on the 3D sketch.

 

By editing the Vertex , Curve and Surface I could find the smooth shape that I wanted to make.

- Internal Tensegrity Structure Design -

Extracting curve from the Subdivision Object - Move the Curve to the Guide Curve - Sweep the Curve to the Cylinder - Trim the Subdivision Object with the Cylinder

 

Make the Guide Curve in the Subdivision - Connect the Guide with Curve

 

Sweep the Joined Curve to the Connected Cylinder

- Parametric Design -

 

 

Set plane which will be a parameter for the Frame Ring.

 

Create the ring by split the Membrane surface with parameter plane.

 

Create a Formula and connect the formula with plane offset value.

 

Now I can control the width of the ring by changing the formula value.

 

Also I can change the edge fillet, by changing the fillet value after other work.

- Natural Sketch -

 

 

 

 

I use the "Natural Sketch" not only for the starting process but also for the final process to check the scale and the overall form.

"Natural Sketch" is faster and simpler than importing image to the modeling.
