CATIA Design Internship Project_"Wind Bench"_SEONG-MIN CHOO_01

Hello

This is SEONG-MIN CHOO from Kookmin Univ in South KOREA.

I am doing my Bachelor degree in Industrial Design and running my Studio called STUDIO CHOO.

Since Feb 2015 I have started my internship at Dassault Systèmes HQ in the CATIA Design Team.

(This is 1 month internship to discover and learn CATIA Creative Design Portfolio)

Here I will do my project with 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA Creative Design on the cloud

and I am gonna post my design story in the community

to share my experience using CATIA Creative Design.

My project is "Wind Bench" for JEJU Island in South KOREA. A light weight street furniture driven by the wind.

-  Project's Goal  -

The Goal of this project is

giving a sweet memory from jeju island

with feeling it's specific environment and enjoying the beautiful scenery

during the rest on the Wind Bench.

-  Background  -

*Environment

Jeju island which is a windy island. Also it is a volcanic island.

Such features have made the unique, beautiful environments of the island.

This features of Jeju island made me to focus on the "wind".

*Wind

We can’t see or touch the wind, but we can “feel the wind” in many ways.

To control the wind we can use the surface.

The connection between wind and structure is made by surface.

By controling the surface, we can control the wind.

*Structure

To use the wind I combined "Tensegrity" and "Membrane" Structure.

Combination of tensegrity and membrane can make broad but light weight surface.

Which also minimizing the material consumption.

Pay attention to the next post :)

Thanks.
