Hello,

 

I am Youngwook Kim working as a intern at the CATIA Creative Team.

Last time, I simply introduced design concept and sketch. And this time, I`m going to try to introduce more detail and the process of modeling phase

that made by CATIA Creative Design.

Firstly, as I recently introduced, my idea is a combination of pregnant chair and crib.

The reason I titled 'M.O.M Chair' to this is, It can be simply called as 'Mom chair', but I wanted put the more detailed concept : 'Memory of Mother'.

The main concept of my product is that inducing babies to be born and grew up at the same space where they stay with their mother from the womb.

And the goals of this concept are not only for various functions or purpose of interior, but also for the making lovely memories with product and reminisce that memories in the future.

Babies and pregnant women should be carefully protected and in this respect, pregnant chair and crib are essential furniture.

But on the characteristics of these furniture, they has short product life and cause ineffective using of living space or cost burden.

So I proposing a design solution that can solve these problems by combining pregnant chair and crib.

 

 

 

 

 

Why must be it a rocking chair? 

I decided to choose shape of rocking chair. Commonly, pregnant chair can be classified into rocking chair type and sofa type.

And I understand that people can have some question : why must be rocking chair? 

The first reason is for the babies. A vestibular organ is the first organ that can be recognized and rocking chair hasten growth of this organ.

Second reason is for the pregnant women. Sofa can reduce the Instability from the horizontal weight shift, but not much effective to reducing

vertical weight shift. Rocking chair can handle this more effectively.  

 

 

 

Which shape for the bed ?

Then, why choose the shape of a bed for the crib ?

Recently, many people prefer a mat shape because of the problems from cost and disposal. But if babies laid down at low a mat shape crib,

other people can hurt the babies unconsciously. And if parents have older child, it can be more dangerous. But if the babies laid down at high bed shape crib,

they can be more safely protected with stability and visibility. And this is why I decided to combinate rocking chair shape and bed shape. 

 

 

 

 

 

I turned the initial design into more detail design through the CATIA Natural Sketch app.

If initial idea sketch only applicated concept and design motive, my 3D sketching process focused on commercialization and more structural design with view from various angles.  

Firstly, I adjust structures which is can be regarded impractical in the aspect of human body such as shakable angles.

And I divided produce structure by quality of materials for the low price output and more effective endurance for the weight. Because in the initial idea, the price of product

exceeded sum of two furniture`s price. But I did not ignore the stability while I adjust the initial idea. Because safety must be first priority all the time.

 

 

 

 

 

And then I put the thickness into line sketch with various colors by quality of materials.

In this step, I regulated actual size ratio of chair and human body by adjust scale and angle of lines.

And I moved this adjusted design into CATIA Imagine & Shape program for the big structure modeling. 

The initial modeling was a materialization of 3D sketch for the visualization of high ratio design.

The real time rendering visualization allows a full understanding of the output, including colors and ground effects,

without the addition of a specific rendering program.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next step was another adjustment that make the modeling to fit into finalized product

It was excellent for the moving and adjusting of big size shapes, also it was very good for regulating of ratio and design.

At this step, I considered combination of structure or safety more than initial sketch. Even though more detail step is under the work, I`m doing design

with another consideration which is fit into simulation step as much as possible.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The part of crib needs to more detail work. I want to materialize as package with mat part because the fixed mat has too little usability for the baby.

And I`m considering about using together the quality of the materials of pregnant chair`s sofa part and mat part, this  considering needs more additional designs yet.

And by my design concept, I don`t want to use of tools or grandiose control while switching functions. So I trying to make the mat part to be easily changed without difficulty.

I think this part can be visualized in next step.

 

 

 

 

 

 

From now on, I`m going to refine the shapes more completely and proceed more detail part.

As you see the sketch process, there are some important parts such as the part which is simply moved or hold up the weight.

I want to proceed more detail design into this important part with effective and wonderful expression. And while I proceed this progress, I want to complete my design to be

applitcated both of great functions and nice design by effective utilizing of CATIA program.
