Hallo everybody,
I have been working in the last time on some demo models due to show how powerful catia for the style's department is.
It is very hard to find online some professional material or finished work with Catia creative design.
Many "professionals" still keep saying that Catia is just not good enough to face the design process, because Maya, Alias or Icem are faster or better then Catia, this is not true for few reasons:
1) modelers with Maya/similar software will never reach the IMA quality because they do not have the possibility to make details (hole or grooves) on the surfaces without to subdivide the main mesh in many useless rows, loosing then the quality of the highlights (so they are forced to use surface's software afterwards).
2) with Maya or similar polygon's software, it is impossible to check 100% surfaces with mathematical analysis features;
3) with IMA we do not produce polygons at all! we produce surfaces which are possible to be faced, trimmed and treated with a history process;
4) surfaces software' like Alias or Icem are perfect to sketch a form in high quality, but not in a short time, problems will start when the first change will come on the finished model. they are too slow to change the shape they made. In a normal design process, the designer wants tp change at every step of the process the complete model, even at end of the project.
5) with a polygon software it is impossible to cut out the 3D model and finish it for the milling or 3D printer process (they would need again a surface´s software).
With such software as Alias or similar would be very hard to make a designer happy because it is just impossible to make all his 100000 variants in the given short time, only the main sketch will be possible to be created within some additional changes.
Those are just few of the thousand reasons I could write down to mark the IMA's advantages.
For example working together with the designer sitting next to you and making thousand of variants in real-time already in high quality without to say "come tomorrow and you can see something".
Even exporting our IMA's surfaces as IGES and importing them in Icem or alias, the surface's structure will be exactly the same as in Catia (this does not happen exporting a model from Maya, in Icem we would get 1 surface with thousands of Cv and no theory lines).
This means that, Imagine&shape surfaces can be reused for additional process.
My personal opinion about the software is also a bit different, I do not think that Imagine&shape should replace software like Alias or Icem, the just need to move a step forward, IMA is the perfect tool to find out a form, and a surface software would be the perfect solution to recreate this form in higher quality, without the necessity to change the main form again (a kind of recreate a scan which has already the right design).
Surely Dassault systemes, does not have enough people on the market who can really make the difference in a company to show that the process can be improved.
Many people still say "I am an expert with it" but, on the practice, unfortunately they always fail and let other software win (this is a proof for the company that Catia is not good enough).
For this reason, freak users, should push more in the direction of learning on its own the software until the master level is reached, then it will be possible to push over limits our knowledge and take a fix position in the design process.
I let you now check my videos and hope you will like them, understanding its key points.
