What's New in the R2021xFD06 Cloud Upgrade

Hello Buildings and Infrastructure Community!

The 3DEXPERIENCE Cloud is set to upgrade on May 29-30 and we've got some great and exciting things in store. Four roles will see noticeable enhancements: the Computational Designer for Construction, Civil Designer, Civil Engineer and the Building Structures Engineer.

For a global view of everything that has been delivered on the 3DEXPERIENCE Platform in R2021x, take a look at the public wiki here.

Civil Designer / Civil Engineer

First things first, @LS and team have been working hard to deliver a number of notable enhancements for the Civil Designer and Civil Engineer roles:

1. Improved openness by supporting the industry standard neutral format of LandXML in CATIA roles for Buildings and Civil Infrastructure.

2. Automatic creation of a subgrade surface in addition to the railway design surface will speed up design time for railway tracks and the structural track layers

3. New road alignment capabilities to draw reverse dual spirals improving productivity when designing roads with multiple bends.

4. Additional controls to position road surfaces along an alignment (center of median, edge of median) will improve ergonomics and speed up design time for multi-lane roads.

5. Automatic Bridge Assistant annotation labels will better communicate design and engineering intent according to typical project annotation conventions.

Building Structures Engineer

Next, FD06 brings a number of enhancements to the Building Structures Engineer role. These enhancements are delivered through two applications: Buildings Structure and Concrete Structures 3D Design. Note that these applications are also available in the Civil Designer and Civil Engineer role so you will benefit from these enhancements in those two roles as well.

1. Enhanced capabilities to design rebar in groups rather than individual layers will improve productivity and increase control of simple and complex structures

2. The concept and detailed design applications for steel structures will be linked together through shared Object Types that define each of the member sections. This links designers with downstream manufacturing processes by easily transitioning from a light and nimble feature model to a fully exposed PLM assembly.

Improved productivity when designing rebar with new functionality to control the spacing of bars and layers through a single line text input field. The resulting bars are then extracted into the Rebar Report Table where each unique bar shape will be represented by its own unique line item.

Computational Designer for Construction

And last but certainly not least, if you haven't had a chance to read @ES's post about what's new in xGenerative Design in the dedicated CATIA xGenerative Design community, check it out here: https://r1132100503382-eu1-3dswym.3dexperience.3ds.com/#community:SNKdMgXCR8SJqa8lpbe7IQ/post:dCk8HFCXRUSNTv6t4e086A

@BF made a great video highlighting these updates in the context of architectural design in the video below.

Wrap Up

R2021xFD06 has been another great release and we're excited to get your feedback. We're working hard on road and rail design, terrain modeling, structures for buildings and bridges as well as the most robust computational and generative modeling technology in the world.

Don't hesitate to reach out for questions, comments or requests. But most of all, enjoy FD06!
