Biological Registration: Editing Multiple Records with File Attachments

BioReg users might sometimes attempt to edit multiple records to add/change File Attachments and follow the steps shown in online help. The steps are:

To Edit Multiple Records:
• To delete an attachment, enter the * character for the attachment columns
• To change the filename of an attachment (but not its contents) change the value of the Attachment-1/FileName column.
• To change an attachment you must make edits in several steps:
a. Enter the * character for the attachment columns to remove the old attachment and submit the edited spreadsheet.
b. Obtain a new exported spreadsheet for the same record set.
c. Enter the new file information in the attachment columns and submit the edited spreadsheet.


If they proceed further, they will notice that there is no prompt to upload the attachment file. Our BioReg Developers looked into this issue recently and identified this to be a defect. It was found that attachments during bulk edit were lost during Gems Merge before the GEMS Writer in the workflow..

They will look into this issue further in detail and try to fix this problem in a future release of the application. In the meantime, BioReg users are advised to use the BioReg web client to edit each record manually and replace file attachments.
