3DEXPERIENCE platform Business Innovation (IFW)
[New in 12/2018] New App: User Groups
Adding users 1 by 1 in your communities or in 3DDrive can be very painful when your audience is composed of hundreds of people. A new service, User Groups, is being deployed to help you with that! This group notion will help you share content from 3DDrive, 3DSpace, 3DSwym or even to grant platform roles to a large group of users.
More details in the dedicated article.
Native apps installation
Until now, installing native apps code required the user to be admin on his machine. Now, it is possible to launch install of 3DEXPERIENCE Launcher and the native apps without being administrator on the machine.
Moreover, there is a new look and feel at installation.

3DSwym
Highlight your favorite communities
To quickly access your favorite communities, you can now add them to your favorites in the dedicated section and order them by order of importance. It is only accessible in the What’s New section.
Pin a content at the top of your community feed
As owners of communities, we often need an information to be visible and not to get lost inside the community feed.
3DSwym now offers the possibility for the communities owners to highlight one and only one content at a time (from any type) at the top of your community feed! Pinning a content can also be a way to have a 'welcome' content, with the key information of your community.
Surveys & Wikis appear in the community feed
Until now, new surveys and wikis weren't displayed in the community feed. It was inconvenient, especially for surveys. Once we created a survey, we had to write a post about it so that the information was available in the community feed.
This workaround is no longer required, as all the types of content now appear in the feed!
Surveys can be answered directly from the What's new. For wikis, they will only appear in the feed at their creation not when they are revised.
Surveys: several new features
When creating your next surveys, you'll be glad to see the new features that have been deployed. First of all, the order for the survey creation has changed. Now, you first have to create the questions, then in a second step, you declare the timing of your survey (reverse of what we had until now). Your questions can have files attached, and a new type of answer is available: the rating scale.
Until now, as the survey creator, you had to answer to your own survey to have a look at the results during your survey timing. This is over! You can check results whenever you want, and you can also visualize those results in a pie graph format if you want!
"My Communities" page has a new display
To make it easier for you to read the 'My Communities' page, the new layout is all about perfectly aligned cards.
Animated GIF supported
It's a trend that has come back in the last years on social networks, GIF has become a way to express an idea, a feeling, and a state of mind. You could already add GIFs in your content, but they were not animated. Now they are, enjoy!
It will also support the display of animated GIF on 3DComments made on 3DSwym items only.
As we introduce here a new media_type, these items are available within 6WTagger under “Animated Pictures”.
Finally, in case you already uploaded GIF media in the past (prior to this function), it will remain definitively static. The function applies only to the newly uploaded GIF media files.
3DDashboard
A new dashboard management role
There is now an intermediate role between "Reader" and "Owner" in dashboard management. This role allows people to update information but not delete widgets or even the whole dashboard.
Here are now the 3 roles that you can have in a dashboard:
- Reader: has read-only access.
- New! - Contributor: Can edit the content of widgets but cannot modify the structure or properties of the dashboard or widget position or size.
- Owner: Can edit the dashboard structure and widget content, modify the dashboard properties, and delete the dashboard.
Please pay attention to the wording of the roles! Contributors in a dashboard don't have the same rights as contributors in 3DSwym. Here is the equivalence:
3DSwym | 3DDashboard |
---|---|
Contributor | Reader |
Author | Contributor |
Owner | Owner |
3DDrive
Retrieve your deleted files with the trash
This function will improve the usability of the 3DDrive service. The Trash will allow to retrieve the deleted content, if the user has deleted it by mistake.
When some content is deleted, either from the 3DDrive web application or from the 3DDrive Windows Sync client, the content is moved into a Trash folder.
This folder can be retrieved in the 3DDrive web application. The user can then either delete permanently a content or restore it.
3DPassport
3DEXPERIENCE ID
The 3DEXPERIENCE ID is the new name for User ID.
Moreover, the 3DEXPERIENCE platform delivers compliance with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) for data protection and privacy regulations on the cloud. Standard access to the platform includes a review and acceptance of the policy by users.
3DEXPERIENCE CATIA on the Cloud
New role: 3D Generative Innovator (XGG)
Unconstrained Creativity
“3D Generative Innovator” delivers a browser-based on-the-cloud generative modeling environment that uniquely combines graphical visual scripting and interactive 3D-modeling, with the ability to use one or the other interchangeably at any time.
Any 3D Model can also be described by a program/script which defines the 3D elements and the relationships between them. Visual Scripting makes this easier, as it is a visual approach to creating programs by manipulating program elements graphically rather than by specifying them textually (eg, drag and drop of boxes and links). Using this approach, advanced automation and computational design techniques can be introduced to the parametric model creation process.
This new, intuitive and smart approach allows creative people in Architecture, Design/Styling and Engineering to quickly design, explore and validate variations of complex, repetitive and non-regular shapes and patterns. All created geometry is available to be used in the world of detailed design and manufacture through the rich portfolio of roles on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
Uniquely, at any stage of the design, the user can swap freely between the graph and the interactive 3D, as these are bi-directionally dynamically sync’ed. For instance, the user can start a command in the interactive 3D environment and finish it in the graph or vice-versa. The benefit is even more artistic creativity and productivity, leading to more successful designs.
Key Values:
- Browser-based on-the-cloud generative modeling environment
- Combines graphical visual scripting and interactive 3D-modeling,
- Uniquely provides the ability to use one or the other interchangeably at any time.
- Quickly design, explore and validate variations of complex, repetitive and non-regular shapes and patterns
- All created geometry is available to be used in the world of detailed design and manufacture.

New App: ICEM Design Experience
New levels of productivity, innovation and collaboration
ICEM Design Experience provides an intuitive and optimized user experience to accelerate the creation and sculpting of high quality surfaces.
Based on the best in class and proven ICEM technology, and in collaboration with industrial user champions, we have designed the next innovative solution for surface modelling.
This new user experience is based on an innovative approach to user interaction and selection of surfaces, and a new user interface. Both are optimized for surface modelers, boosting their productivity and flexibility to create and shape surfaces.
Innovation
A new “OMNI” smart technology, inside several features, recognises and predicts the designer’s intent, based upon his geometry selection. For example, the OMNISurf feature, based on the number and 3D position of curves, will generate the right surface, for example flange, blend or sweep.
ICEM Design Experience also introduces innovative commands and features, including sculpting laws, Greville points (control points) and global deformation. These combine with a new reverse engineering workflow that accelerates the overall hybrid-design process.
ICEM Design Experience brings an innovative Mathematics, called “Soft Parametric”, to the hands of surface modelers. Soft Parametric gives the user the flexibility to choose explicit modelling or various levels of parametric surface modelling. This can be fully explicit, locally parametric, or fully parametric. The modeler can choose the most efficient approach for the current task – taking as much parametric capability as he wishes for this particular task, and can switch back and forth as needed.
Collaboration
With ICEM Design Experience, CAS and Class-A surface modelers can now seamlessly connect with the enterprise on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, taking advantage of full digital continuity across the product development process.
Key Values:
- Innovative approach to user interaction and selection of surfaces, and a new user interface. Both are optimized for surface modelers.
- A new “OMNI” smart technology recognizes and predicts the designer’s intent, based upon his geometry selection
- Innovative commands and features, including sculpting laws, Greville points and global deformation. These combine with a new reverse engineering workflow that accelerates the overall hybrid-design process.
- Full digital continuity across the product development process.
New role: Function Driven Refinement Designer (DOF) + enhanced role: Function Driven Generative Designer (GDE)
Generate optimized conceptual assemblies from functional specifications.
In CATIA R2019x, this geometry quality is further improved with smoother and more regular surfaces.
New functionality is also introduced to better control the design of optimized parts to be produced through the milling process. The specifications of the milling process, such as the milling directions, the initial block, and the tool diameter are used to determine the various profiles, for the outer shape and inner pockets.
The new extension role, “Function Driven Refinement Designer”, allows you to further refine and converge the optimized shape, globally or locally, without re-running the full optimization. This can be achieved by:
Parametric optimization convergence: After the automated generation of the concept shape, the user can choose select geometric parameters to tune from the 3D model, set an acceptable range for each one of them and then run an incremental optimization.
Further optimization of the shape: the software optimizes the outer shape to lower the stress peaks, without the need to specify explicitly which geometric parameters to vary. This can lead to a bulkier shape in stressed areas, and if possible, a thinner shape in lightly loaded areas. Typically, such a shape modification reduces fatigue and enhances the durability of the part.
Key Values:
- Geometry quality is further improved with smoother and more regular surfaces.
- New functionality to better control the design of optimized milled parts.
- The new extension role, “Function Driven Refinement Designer”, allows you to further refine and converge the optimized shape, globally or locally, without re-running the full optimization.
- Parametric optimization convergence
- Shape based optimization

Product Release Engineer role (XEN)
Enterprise product definition can be fully model based
With R2019x, the enterprise product definition (that is the version of the physical structure used for BOM-centric enterprise processes) can be fully model based. This advances the ability to develop a holistic digital twin of a product, since creating such a twin requires that all digital product representations leverage the same underlying model. One of the critical processes in the planning and development of the experience twin is the enterprise release process, which is delivered via the new Product Release Engineer role.
As a result, Product Release Engineers and designers work on a single configured product definition, each with their own view tailored to their needs. Product Release Engineers are able to refine the definition in preparation for release to the enterprise and manufacturing for execution, all in a powerful web experience that allows them to work anywhere and on any device.
Why/Current Pains | What/Benefits |
---|---|
Time consuming and error prone aggregation from engineering functions | Master a single holistic (multi-discipline) definition of a product, eliminating the need for any structure synchronization |
Configured Engineering definition validation with portfolio definition is performed manually, causing errors and delays | Achieve configured engineering definition with direct connection to portfolio definition |
Engineering definition is governed without any relation to business related objectives (KPI) | Achieve business goals and optimize products and processes by leveraging KPIs and intelligence |

"Planning for all" - for individuals and teams
Planning is an activity for all stakeholders in the enterprise. However, most of the planning tools support a community of project and program planners that have adopted specific, industrial and formal processes to define these projects and programs. While these have been adopted in ENOVIA’s project roles, R2019x introduces the new Project Planner role for cloud users to provide a “planning for all” experience for individuals and teams, with the tools needed to plan work and drive innovation in a social and collaborative way. The experience is web-based, intuitive, simple, and social at its core, while leveraging the powerful knowledge-base and capabilities of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
With this new role, any stakeholder or innovation team can collaboratively define a plan, create/assign, and organize activities in a simple, intuitive and social way, including:
- Capturing organic innovation bottom up, through the connection of people, skills/capabilities, and tasks as ideas evolve (as opposed to decomposing project tasks from high-level objectives top-down)
- Dynamic and automated planning delivered via an assisted user experience, based on continuous optimization
- Seamless transition from social and unstructured innovation to collaborative content and deliverables review
New Mid-Market roles

Setup, Visualize, Validate and Program Powder Bed Fusion Manufacturing
`Additive manufacturing has experienced rapid growth. 3DEXPERIENCE platform release 2019x brings the latest innovation in this segment in the Powder Bed Programmer (APW) role - formerly named Additive Manufacturing Programmer AMP - which, in 3D, performs the setup, engineers the process, runs the physics based simulation, and generates programming of powder bed fusion manufacturing machines or industrial 3D printers.
The role allows the user to user to optimally and efficiently place the workpieces on the build tray, using advanced nesting algorithm. The role is also a comprehensive environment for defining, visualizing, optimizing the actual manufacturing process including material/powder selection, thickness of layer, identification or engineering of appropriate supports, type of machine needed, etc. Importantly, it is a template-based based system which provides for the storage and retrieval of best practices. The user can also visualize the layers, slice by slice.
With Release 2019x, APW provides the unique SIMULIA capabilities available to run a physically realistic thermo-mechanical simulation of the part as it is built up during the 3D printing process, and as it cools down. For example, printed parts warp when they are printed and part distortion is predicted and can be accounted for. Support structures (both their addition and removal) are easily included. Material behavior (such as cool down) variations with print parameters (thickness of layer, print path and speed) are modeled. The Additive Manufacturing Researcher has a virtual environment to assess and optimize the 3Dprinting process and ensure that parts can be property manufactured the first time. All of this functionality is now provided in intuitive and simplified interface tailored to non-simulation-expert users.
In effect, additive manufacturing engineers and machine programmers are able to optimize material/powder selection, beam direction and intensity, layer thickness, identification or engineering of appropriate supports, and type of machine used, etc.
Description:
Powder Bed Programmer allows users to quickly setup, visualize validate and then program the additive process to produce quality additive parts right the first time.
Key Values:
- Start from Additive Process Templates to rapidly reuse proven manufacturing processes for additive manufacturing.

New App: Wire EDM Machining
Visualize and program Wire EDM machining
DELMIA further extends it’s leadership in the machining domain in release 2019x by providing a new application to simulate, validate, and program wire Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) processes. Wire EDM is a machining process by which electrically charged wire vaporizes material rather than cutting it by traditional methods. Wire EDM has capabilities to machine with extremely high accuracy, and is gaining in popularity as it lends itself well to additive manufacturing for removing bases and supports, or to enhance accuracy (e.g. bring additive part within tolerances)
The new application is included in the NC Multi-Axis Milling and Turning Programmer (NMT) role. It includes the ability to compute the wire EDM path and program the synchronization of each end of the wire (‘the synchronization points’) to the part contours. Users can implement 2 and 4 axes programming capabilities with dedicated wire EDM strategies, and visualize and validate their program strategy, and then produce the machine code to be used in the real machine. As with all DELMIA Machining applications, users can save and re-use best practices by creating the wire EDM paths, storing them in a template, and then re-using the same strategy on other parts to be machined.
Description:
New Wire EDM capabilities broaden DELMIA’s leadership in the machining domain by introducing wire EDM capabilities into the NC Prismatic Machining role.
Highlights:
- Seamless integration into the DELMIA Additive workflow.
- Compute the EDM path and synchronization points to machine contours.

Robotics Surface Engineer role (RSF)
New capabilities added to Robotic Surface Engineer (RSF)
Robotics Surface Engineer role (RSF) handles processes that require the robot to follow the surface of a part such as painting, polishing, and flaming (accounting for number of passes, direction of the robot motion, overlap of each pass, etc.). In 3DEXPERIENCE Release R2019x, users can now simulate, validate, and optimize industrial robot shot peening processes in a virtual 3D environment. Shot peening bombards sheet metal with a stream of metal shot so as to shape the sheet metal, or introduce compressive residual stresses on the component surface to increase resistance to fatigue. Once the robot trajectories are created using the 3D surface in RSF, the user can model shot-peen-specific attributes such as nozzle shapes and pressure, and visualize the surface exposure to the shot peening process. The Robot Programmer can easily identify surfaces that are under exposed or over exposed to the shot peen process, optimize robot motions, and validate uniform surface exposure to shot.
Description:
New capabilities are available to visualize, validate and program robotic shot peen processes.
Highlights:
- Easily create multiple passes across the 3D surface.
- Select the direction and spacing of each pass.
- Model shot peen specific attributes like the nozzle size and pressure
- Visualize the surface exposure to the shot peening process.
- Implement the correct robot strategy for surface treatment.
3DEXPERIENCE SIMULIA on the Cloud
In 3DEXPERIENCE R2019x, users can benefit from many powerful Simulation roles from SIMULIA. There are now 28 roles on public cloud (including 5 new roles on the cloud) out of a total of 29 available roles.
Simulation products are plentiful in today’s marketplace. What is missing is the recognition that, as customers demand that simulation be more pervasive and deliver greater value, using simulation products in a scalable and repeatable manner requires those products to be connected/integrated to execute each high-value industry process being considered. Integrated simulation technologies must work side-by-side on a single data model linked to requirements, concepts, manufacturing, and consumer end-use.
In R2019x, the 3DEXPERIENCE Simulation portfolio delivers ‘coordinated’ enhancements to maximize value for end-to-end industry processes of focus, chosen to align with customer priorities. Each specific enhancement in a role is matched by enhancements in other roles and products used within that same process to provide a complete out-of-box capability for customers.
For example, for electric vehicle design in the Transportation & Mobility industry, enhancements include automatic surface fastener detection in the Mechanical Analyst role, a new implicit coupling algorithm for fluid-structure simulation in Multiscale Systems Specialist (MCK), and field expression support in Results Data Analyst (SRA).
Users of simulation products generally do not have access to out of the box capabilities for enabling much needed collaboration & sharing, and simulation management. The previous release changed that to open the power the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to those users and their IP, bringing capabilities to capture & publish best-practices, share & collaborate on results & methods, and integrate fully with non-experts. The IP of the existing user ( data, methods and results of simulations) is managed, and more easily accessible & visible (and hence more valuable) throughout the work-group and the enterprise with no disruption to existing methods and tools.
3DEXPERIENCE R2019x extends further the power of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform with enhancements including:
- ‘user subroutine’ support during On Cloud execution for Abaqus Specialist for structural simulation (i.e. capability to extend Abaqus with own materials, elements, methods)
- In the Simpack Specialist (PXP) role for the multibody simulation user, enhancements include upload of result data, plots, and animations for vibration studies
- In the XFlow Specialist (PXF) role for the Fluids simulation user, enhancements include: upload of result data, plots, and animations to a 3DEXPERIENCE dashboard for sharing and collaboration with colleagues.
- In the CST Specialist (PX2) role for the Electromagnetics simulation user, enhancements include: support for 3D CAD (CATIA) assemblies for CST Studio Specialist for electromagnetic simulation.

3DEXPERIENCE Quintiq on the Cloud
Quintiq roles enhancement
3DEXPERIENCE Release 2019x introduces new enhancements to the 4 supply chain planning and optimization roles from Quintiq.
The four roles are: Supply Chain Director (QSF), Demand Planner (QDM), Collaborative Forecasting (QCO), and Supply Planner (QSW). They are focused on Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP), the critical business process that brings together Sales, Finance, Production, Marketing and other key departments to balance demand and supply in the supply chain on an 18-month. S&P is a critical forward-looking decision making process, which then triggers and feeds the rest of the supply chain management processes such as supply chain planning, production planning..
In release 2019x, the user experience has been enhanced for productivity and more seamless collaboration between the 4 supply chain planning and optimization roles. For instance:
- All apps for the roles Supply Chain Director and Collaborative Forecaster are now web based. So, not only this facilitates mobility, but the user experience has been streamlined.
- In forecasting, data is multi-dimensional and users organize them into the specific hierarchies that best match the needs of their respective departments. (e.g. dimensions are product hierarchy, sales hierarchy, geographical hierarchy, etc.)., and sales forecasts are defined at the intersection of these hierarchies. Now, users can make multiple simultaneous selections on each one of these hierarchies/dimensions when slicing and dicing data. This enhances the ability to find dependencies, and enhances the accuracy of the demand forecast.
- The visualization of the status of your supply chain (in a single view) has been enhanced with capacity and usage of your resources and transport, highlighting the bottlenecks
- Collaboration has increased with the new integration with 3DDrive. Data like demand, prices and suppliers can be imported and shared with multiple stakeholders more seamlessly. Optimized scenarios can be exported and stored for future use.
