Hi everyone,
I am currently trying to replicate FEA compression simulations using an SPH approach.
As a first step, I ran a basic SPH simulation with the following parameters: smoothing length = 1, smoothing factor = 1, and number of neighbours = 1. With this setup, the simulation appeared to run stably. HowevAbaqusAbaqus CAEsphSIMULIA r, the results did not match my FEA predictions.
Following the documentation, I then attempted to increase the number of neighbours. When I set the neighbour count to 30, the simulation becomes unstable and a “particle explosion” occurs. Additionally, the resulting contour plots show that only approximately half of the cylinder undergoes deformation, which seems unphysical.
I would appreciate any insight into why increasing the number of neighbours leads to this behaviour, and suggestions on how best to troubleshoot or stabilise the simulation.
Best,
Alexandros
