CST - How to place a unit cell of any shape conformal to a tangent-ogive geometry in CST MWS?

Hi,

I attempted to place simple unit cells (circular rings) on a tangent-ogive geometry, but I was unable to make them properly conformal to the surface. The workflow I followed is outlined below:

  • Calculated a set of equidistant points (Pi) on the radome surface.
  • Computed the local tangents (Ti) and normals (Ni) at each of these points.
  • Used these vectors to define a local coordinate system (WCS) at each (Pi), and placed the unit cells accordingly.

However, after placing the unit cells, the bending/wrapping operation does not behave correctly. Specifically, the unit cells near the base of the tangent-ogive geometry appear smaller compared to those near the tip.

Additionally, I tried projecting curves onto the ogive surface. After projection, however, I am unable to extrude or assign thickness to the unit cells because they become non-planar following the bending/wrapping operation. As a result, I am unable to proceed using either approach.

I have seen suggestions to use tools like SolidWorks or ANSYS HFSS for conformal mapping, but I would prefer to continue working in CST Studio Suite   since I am more familiar with it.

Could someone guide me on how to correctly implement this in CST MWS? A detailed, step-by-step approach would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
