Problem Statement: We are experiencing critical performance issues when opening assemblies in SOLIDWORKS that contain Physical Products created directly within the 3DEXPERIENCE platform (including Duplicates and those created using SOLIDWORKS templates).
When these components are loaded—even in Lightweight or Large Assembly Mode—SOLIDWORKS triggers an "on-the-fly" conversion process that leads to the following:
- Severe Latency: Opening speeds are significantly degraded compared to SOLIDWORKS-native parts.
- System Instability (Critical): As the number of these "platform-native" Physical Products increases, SOLIDWORKS frequently enters a "Not Responding" state during the conversion process.
- Project Blockage: We have reached a threshold where top-level assemblies can no longer be opened. Notably, this threshold appears to have decreased significantly following the 2026 update.
Workflow Rationale: Our workflow requires adding non-geometric components (e.g., internal electrical connector pins) directly in 3DEXPERIENCE to maintain BOM integrity without the overhead of traditional CAD modeling.
Conflict with Current Guidance: Our VAR suggests that all Physical Products should be created and initialized within SOLIDWORKS. We find this unacceptable as it forces CAD-intensive tasks on non-CAD users and contradicts the "platform-first" efficiency of 3DEXPERIENCE.
Request: We are seeking a technical solution or a configuration change that allows SOLIDWORKS to handle 3DEXPERIENCE-native products as "Metadata-only" or "Virtual" items without triggering a heavy conversion process. Please advise on how to resolve the assembly opening failure without reverting to a SOLIDWORKS-only creation workflow.
