Inquiry regarding default visibility of Finite Element Models (FEM) in 3DPlay and Product Structurer Editor

I am writing to ask for a solution to optimize our workflow regarding the visibility of Finite Element Models (FEM).

Current Workflow: Our team primarily works in the Product Structure Editor (XEN) app. To maintain a clean tree structure, we keep 3DShapes hidden. For visual inspection, we frequently drag and drop Physical Products from XEN into 3DPlay.

The Issue: Since we recently started adopting Simulia, we have noticed that FEM representations are now automatically populating in both the Product Structure tree and the 3DPlay viewer alongside the geometry.

Why existing solutions don't work:

  1. Manual Hiding: Manually hiding FEM items each time is inefficient.
  2. Filtering: We considered using 'Selection Filters' to exclude FEM types. However, creating, saving, and applying a filter for every distinct Physical Product we open is too labor-intensive and disrupts our rapid verification process.
  3. 3DPlay Limitations: 3DPlay does not appear to have a built-in feature to filter object types on the fly.

Our Request: We are looking for a more efficient way to exclude FEMs from the view by default.

  • Is there a global preference or setting to prevent FEMs from loading in the Product Structure tree or 3DPlay automatically?
  • Is there a way to apply a "display filter" globally that persists across different sessions/products?

We need a solution that allows us to check the physical geometry quickly without the visual clutter of FEMs.
