As we prepare for our mid-year on-premise upgrade of 3DEXPERIENCE to version R2026x, I am attempting to build an IT project to support the deployment. I am trying to research what other DS customers have done to perform such a deployment as I am not aware of any DS best practice thus far although they are looking into recommendations.
Our previous move from R2020x to R2023x relied on manual installs and USB drives. Given Joby’s current scale, this is no longer a viable or secure option. We are anticipating a significant increase in data requirements for this upgrade:
- Installer Size: ~65–75 GB (up from 45 GB from R2023x).
- Total Disk Space Required: ~120 GB per workstation.
- Scale: Over 600 workstations worldwide.
While we can automate the installation script internally, we require expertise to solve the global delivery challenge—distributing massive payloads to 600+ machines without saturating our network bandwidth.
Project Objectives & Requirements
We are looking to partner with our IT team to implement a deployment solution (e.g., SCCM, Intune, or a specialized peer-to-peer delivery tool) that supports the following:
- Bandwidth Management: Efficient delivery that avoids network "brownouts" during the rollout.
- Pre-Flight Checks: Automated alerts if a workstation lacks the necessary 120 GB of free space.
- Resilient Downloads: Ability to "checkpoint" or resume downloads if a user shuts down their system or loses connection.
- Reporting & Analytics: Real-time statistics on download progress, success rates, and failure logs.
- Post-Install Cleanup: Automatic deletion of the installer files upon successful verification.
- Remediation: Ability to manually trigger the process for specific edge cases.
- Image Integration: Deployment of the R2026x version to our standard Engineering Gold Image post-cutover.
Our IT Team team asked me to reach out to other customers to see what they have done. We would prefer a solution that does not require us to fully customize the process. If anyone can share their experience and other requirements I should consider, please let me know
