Usually we cannot open a CAE or ODB file generated in a particular Abaqus release in an earlier Abaqus release. But in certain cases, we will be able to load the CAE or ODB file in a later Abaqus release. For example, we can open an ODB file generated in 6.12-1 in Abaqus/CAE 6.14-1.  

Reason for this behavior- if a CAE or ODB generated in a particular Abaqus version has any objects that are changed compare to another Abaqus version, then Abaqus will prevent the user from opening it; otherwise the CAE or ODB will be opened and a warning message is printed in the replay file.
