Dassault Systèmes - Practical Nonlinear Finite-Element Analysis with Abaqus - Advanced Seminar

SIMULIA’s own Randy Marlow, SIMULIA Structures Industry Process Consultant Senior Expert presented at the 2026 SIMULIA Americas Users Conference.

Abstract:

This presentation will be an overview of some of the practicalities of nonlinear finite element analysis with the Abaqus finite-element solver codes. There will be a discussion of the equilibrium solution methods implemented in Abaqus/Explicit and Abaqus/Standard. The lecture will also contain comments on three of the fundamental constructs in an Abaqus finite-element model: elements, material models, and contact. There will be a summary of the features in Abaqus/Standard that are commonly used to overcome nonconvergence. The seminar will end with comments on principles of practical nonlinear finite-element analysis.
