Introduction
In the project management domain, forecast dates represent the expected future dates when a task, milestone, or the entire project is likely to be completed.
Forecast dates help project managers anticipate delays or early finishes and take corrective action before issues become critical.
It is important to understand how forecast dates differ from planned and actual dates:
Planned dates are established at the beginning of the project and represent the originally intended schedule based on assumptions.
Actual dates are recorded when an activity has already been completed.
Forecast dates are dynamic. They are updated regularly based on current progress and performance trends and are used to predict when unfinished work is expected to be completed.
In simple terms:
Planned dates show what was intended
Actual dates show what has already happened
Forecast dates show what is likely to happen next
Calculate Forecast Values in Project Planning web application:
To calculate forecast values in the ENOVIA Project Planning web application, including - Forecast Duration, Forecast Start Date, Forecast End Date, and Calculation Timestamp, use the 'Calculate Forecast' command available in the Schedule facet toolbar.
This command is available in both Table View and Timeline View and calculates forecast values for all tasks, milestones, and the project, based on the project’s configured Forecast Mode.
Forecast Mode:
The Forecast Mode is an enterprise project-level property that defines how the system calculates forecast values. It is configured in the enterprise project property panel and determines the forecasting methodology applied consistently to all objects within the project.
Forecast Mode Options:
Current Progress (Default)
Calculates forecast values by extrapolating completion based on the actual performance rate to date. This mode answers the question:
“If we continue at our current pace, when will we finish?”Planned Progress
Calculates forecast values by assuming the remaining work will be completed at the originally planned rate. This mode answers the question:
“If the remaining work follows the original plan, when will we finish?”
