3DEXPERIENCE World - Community Build - General Information

Greetings Everyone -

Are you heading to Houston for 3DEXPERIENCE World?
Are you a big fan of the SOLIDWORKS Community?
Do you want to be part of our Community Build?
Do you LOVE Tetris?

If you are not familiar with our idea for the Community Build, we talked about it during SLUGME - You can watch the video here:
SLUGME Community Build Intro

If you want to get involved in our Community Build, you will need to sign up here:
Signup Sheet

The goal is to create a 'wall' of Tetris pieces that represents our incredible SOLIDWORKS Community -

One side of the wall will look like standard Tetris pieces -

The other side of the wall will represent something important to the artist that designed the piece -

(If you sign up using the link above, you can be that artist!)

The Details:
Our plan is to have everyone bring their pieces to 3DEXPERIENCE World in Houston, and help us assemble our 'Tetris Wall'.

There are (7) different shapes available in Tetris (From left to right: "I" / "J" / "L" / "O" / "S" / "T" / "Z")

After you sign up, I will email you a randomly selected parasolid with a shape to use for your design.

Uniformity:
The 'base' of each shape is essentially the 'frame' for your art - These cannot be changed or scaled in any way!
The 'base' must be a single, uniform color - The parasolid that you receive and start with must remain a single color.
Your entire design must fit INSIDE the shape - Nothing protruding on any side.

Uniqueness:
The color of the 'base' can be ANYTHING you want.
The artwork inside the 'base' is entirely up to you - It can represent your local User Group, your local Community, your region, your employer, your hobbies, your favorite charities, and so on.
(We are all responsible adults - this should be something that your child could take to school, or your parents could share with their friends - we reserve the right to deny any designs that could be considered offensive.)

The examples in the images above should give you a rough idea of what we have in mind.
The "SLUGME X" piece was shown during the broadcast.
The "EKGAR" piece is a favorite charity. (Every Kid Gets A Robot - One of the first charities that we helped with SLUGME!)
Each 'base' is a unique & solid color, the artwork is multi-color and fits entirely within the 'base' - Both represent our Community!

Questions:
Please post any questions you might have, I will add them to the list and answer them.

Q: What if I don't have a 3d printer?
A: Is there a Maker Space or a school near you that can print it for you? Possibly reach out to other users?
– We are looking for people to print for others - If you need help printing, or if you can help with printing, please comment below! --

Q: What if the shape is too big for my 3d printer?
A: The "I" shape is the largest, at 3" x 3" x 12" (76.2mm x 76.2mm x 304.8mm) - You can print it in multiple sections and glue it back together. Or, possibly look for someone with a bigger printer.

Q: What do I do with the finished product?
A: Hopefully you will be able to bring it with you to Houston for 3DXW26 and help us complete the build. (This will create extra room in your luggage to bring home goodies!) If you are not able to attend the conference, maybe you can get it to someone that is going. With this Community, we will find a way to get it there!

Q: Does everything need to be 3d printed?
A: I thought it would be easiest if it was entirely 3d printed, but you could use other manufacturing methods for the contents/artwork. (As long as the 'base' is 3d printed and the contents are securely attached to the 'base'.)

Thank you all for your help in making this happen!
