Adoption Strategy
Being a casual SOLIDWORKS user or part of a small design team will likely mean that you will be able to make changes to your 3DEXPERIENCE Platform and SOLIDWORKS installation with little to no approval/validation process from outside your design department. This scenario is a perfect fit for the "start using it, and evolve as needed" approach. Minimal 3DEXPERIENCE platform configuration will typically be sufficient to get started, but it is recommended that all of the setup and onboarding topics listed in the table below are considered and discussed.
Even if data management is not a requirement, it is worth investing time to understand the core features of the 3DEXPERIENCE platform: Revisions, Lifecycle, and Item Naming and Numbering. Even if you decide to opt out of using Revisions & Lifecycle, they are pre-configured on the platform and ready to use if you need them later.
Implementation & Onboarding
A simplified onboarding process will likely be best here. It allows you and your design team to be productive right away. Although there are 4 stages in this example process, if all of the right people are together at the same time, this process could be completed in one session.
If you would prefer to get up and running immediately without a planned implementation or instructor led training. It is recommended that you go straight to both the admin and member path video series in the SOLIDWORKS + 3DEXPERIENCE Getting Started Guide in this community.
1. Kickoff
Where companies require Formal Processes and more complex implementations may need days, weeks, or months of planning and testing, a much shorter implementation phase can be sufficient for simple cloud storage. The main objective of the Kickoff meeting is for you and your team members to review the roles & outcomes that were purchased and provide a clear path forward. Your SOLIDWORKS reseller partner will be on hand to assist with these discussions and provide guidance if you need it.
2. User Training
Being a casual user or part of a small design team, it is likely that you won't have a dedicated CAD and 3DEXPERIENCE platform administrator. Attending an instructor-led training session with your SOLIDWORKS reseller partner is recommended, and supplementation with online learning resources should be sufficient.
3. Setup & Configuration
Setup & Configuration will be quick and easy. Refer back to the Outcome Worksheet to see if there is any configuration needed, but almost everything here should work out of the box.
4. Go Live
Ongoing Engagement
Following training and going live, continue to build your knowledge and keep up to date with the latest enhancements. You will find announcements in the SOLIDWORKS News & Info about forthcoming webinars, new features in SOLIDWORKS Design, and the 3DEXPERIENCE platform. The SolidPractices wiki in this community contains a comprehensive selection of best practice guides to help you expand your knowledge on a wide range of SOLIDWORKS + 3DEXPERIENCE topics.
See below for an example roadmap illustrating some suggested engagements and milestones during the first year of your adoption journey. Remember, this is just an example; any plan should be tailored to suit both your company's needs and internal strategies.
Your SOLIDWORKS reseller partner is also on hand to assist with any technical questions you may have and to help with additional training requirements.
