✨ Resolve Modelling Errors with Root Cause Analysis

How Can AI Virtual Companions Help Me?

When model features fail during a rebuild, LEO can help you get to the root cause. Rather than relying on the list of issues displayed in the What's Wrong dialogue, LEO will provide deeper insights into what's wrong and give clear guidance on how to fix the failed features.

What's Wrong Analysis: Simply ask LEO What's Wrong?

Prerequisites and Set Up

AURA and LEO AI Virtual Companions can be accessed directly within SOLIDWORKS Design via the AI Labs tab in the task pane.

To access AURA and LEO AI Virtual Companions, you will need access to a recent version of SOLIDWORKS Design and be connected to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform.

  • SOLIDWORKS Design (Named-User License)
  • SOLIDWORKS Design with Cloud Services (Device-Locked License)
    • Have the Collaborative Designer for SOLIDWORKS role granted to you
    • Install the Design with SOLIDWORKS application

Note: Version 2026 SP02 or later is required to use the AI Virtual Companions in SOLIDWORKS Design

Installation guidance can be found in the Install Your Roles and Applications section of the Getting Started Guide.

Note: Users do not need to save any of their files to the 3DEXPERIENCE platform to use AURA or LEO.

How To

As this capability requires an error, in this example, we will force a modelling issue. If your design already has an error, then skip this first step.

  1. Modify a dimension or redefine a geometric feature of a part model.

If that feature or any related feature cannot be rebuilt correctly after applying the change, a warning message is displayed. The warning message will state which features have failed and offer 2 options: Continue or Stop and Repair.

  1. Selecting the Stop and Repair option will display the What's Wrong dialogue box. This displays a list of all of the affected features that cannot be successfully rebuilt.
To use LEO to provide deeper insight into how to resolve the issue, select the "Ask Virtual Companion" button on the What's Wrong Dialogue.

  1. A new LEO conversation will be automatically started in the Task Pane. LEO will explain the root cause, provide instructions on how to fix the issues, and offer additional recommendations on how to avoid a similar issue occurring in the future.

Tips and Recommended Practice

  • In 2026, FD02, the Ask Virtual Assistant command, is only available on parts.

  • The Ask Virtual Companion command isn't only available after a rebuild of the model; it can be accessed by right-clicking over any feature that displays an error icon and selecting What's Wrong.

  • The out-of-the-box SOLIDWORKS system settings ensure that errors are displayed after a rebuild of the model. However, experienced users can switch this behaviour off. To display the What's Wrong dialogue box after a rebuild, the SOLIDWORKS System Option Show What's Wrong For Every Rebuild must be enabled.
