Session Abstract
This is the 2026 edition of this topic, featuring all-new content and part files. This session will walk through real-world examples of how SOLIDWORKS’ direct editing tools were effectively used on customer-owned legacy CAD files to improve model stability and add new geometry. At Nextern, our customers often bring in CAD models from other contract engineering firms or internally developed models, and our engineers are asked to efficiently leverage that legacy CAD as a baseline for next-generation design updates. This involves initial model assessment and use of direct editing tools as well as surfacing, multi-body modeling, and in-context assembly modeling. Nextern often works on a time-and-materials basis; this presentation will feature techniques used on actual projects that save time while delivering the desired design.
