Session Abstract

3D printing success starts with thoughtful design—and SOLIDWORKS offers powerful tools to make it seamless. In this beginner-to-intermediate masterclass, participants will learn best practices for designing specifically for 3D printing workflows. Using a custom conference-themed keychain as the case study, the session will cover step-by-step modeling in SOLIDWORKS, file preparation, export settings, and slicing for print. Attendees will not only gain insight into optimizing geometry for print quality and minimizing common errors but will also see a live demonstration of the keychain being printed during the session. To reinforce the learning experience, participants will leave with pre-printed keychains as take-home souvenirs, showcasing the complete workflow from concept to physical object. This session bridges design and fabrication, offering practical tips, real-time demonstrations, and tangible results for designers, students, and makers alike.
