Session Abstract

I work with multiple companies each day to evaluate their standards, workflows, and business processes. Surprisingly, one of the most frequent and contentious topics is something as fundamental as the part numbering system. This session will examine examples of unconventional and problematic part numbering approaches I’ve encountered, how the platform interprets and manages part numbers, and the various options available for structuring them. We will then review the configuration I typically implement in practice, comparing the out-of-the-box (OOTB) processes with customized approaches. The discussion will highlight the advantages and disadvantages of each, along with common pitfalls and lessons learned when establishing effective part numbering strategies.
