The rapid electrification of two-wheelers in Asia has led to incidents of fires caused by poorly or hastily designed batteries. To tackle this issue, the federal governing bodies around the globe have imposed regulations to ensure vehicle battery safety. Understanding the thermal behavior of the battery is crucial, especially in regions experiencing extreme temperatures during summer, to prevent fire hazards.
This study focuses on Cargo 2-Wheelers with intense duty cycles and aims to optimize the battery pack design while keeping costs competitive for the price-sensitive Asian market.
In this session, we will present the status of research and development of battery thermal design process using real-world performance data and exploring liquid-cooled battery strategy. Battery design was done in 3DEXPERIENCE SOLIDWORKS, and improvements were driven by CAD-integrated thermal CFD simulations performed with Fluid Dynamics Engineer on the cloud-based 3DEXPERIENCE platform.
